Dear Bil,
I am writing to express my great interest for the staff writer position that you briefly mentioned to me during our most recent meeting. As you know, I have been a huge follower of “emYOU! the magazine” since the first issue with Jeff Klein on the cover in January 2008, and would love the chance to work with you and your staff. I would also like to congratulate you on expanding the survival guide to six more universities and your new office. You’ll have to let me know what shade of blue you used on your walls; I’m looking to paint and thinking of following your color scheme. I hope you don’t mind!
You’ve got a great thing going with “emYOU! the magazine,” and I want to be a part of it! I fully understand that there is more to the magazine than entertaining and making money; it’s also about giving back, not only to Eastern Michigan University, but to the community as well. You once told me that you are looking to partner with more student organizations and host more events both on campus and in the community: As you can see in my resume, I have the experience that can take “emYOU!” to the next level of campus involvement. I may be young, but I believe I know what I’m doing. Last year I organized and executed one of the most successful events held on this campus in recent years by a single student organization, raising almost $5,000 for the Karmanos Cancer Institute. Granted, it wasn’t $18,000 for a playground, but you and I both know how that turned out… Anyway, the point is this: When I set my mind to a task, it’s going to get finished, and the result is guaranteed to blow people away.
In closing, I’d like to thank you for taking the time to read my letter and review my resume. If you have any questions or would like to set up an interview with me, the best way to reach me is by phone between the hours of 10 a.m. and 11 p.m., or e-mail, my iPhone is never far away from me and I am constantly checking it.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Joseph Stromski II
